An America’s Got Talent contestant was shot with a flaming arrow during a stunt that went horribly wrong live on television.
Canadian stuntman Ryan Stock was performing with his fiancee AmberLynn Walker on Tuesday (Aug 2) in the quarter-finals of the reality show’s 11th season. He had put a curved sword and an arrow down his throat in the lead-up to the grand finale of the act – Walker shooting a flaming arrow at a target placed in Stock’s mouth.
All who were watching had their hearts in their mouths, and their worst fears seemed to have been realised when Walker’s shot flew straight at Stock’s throat.
Luckily, the arrow didn’t penetrate, although Stock looked to be winded and in pain.
The show’s judges, Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell, were open-mouthed in shock. After a few seconds, Stock assured the crowd that he was okay.
Cowell, who created and also executive produces the show, reportedly said: “Why are we judging this act? Amber just shot Ryan and he needs to go to a hospital now.”
Host Nick Cannon later assured viewers that Stock had been examined by medical personnel and appeared to be fine.
Later, Stock tweeted that he was “very fortunate” to walk away from what he called a “serious mishap” and a “very unfortunate mechanical failure”.
A video of the incident was later uploaded on YouTube by the show’s official account, calling the accident a “scary mistake”.
